Strasbourg, a beating heart
European capital and seat of the Parliament, Strasbourg combines great history with modernity. Notre-Dame Cathedral, its astronomical clock and its 142-metre spire tower over a city of cobbled lanes. You linger in the Petite France along the canals and covered bridges, for a date photographed a thousand times yet always romantic. Lively cafés complete the picture by the Ill river.
Colmar and the Little Venice
A little further south, Colmar lines up half-timbered houses, wrought-iron signs and flowered canals. The Little Venice district can be walked or explored by flat-bottomed boat, a charming classic for a first date. The city also cherishes art, from the Unterlinden Museum to the Issenheim altarpiece: a chance to extend the visit in a postcard setting.
Mulhouse and its surprising museums
A change of mood in Mulhouse, where the City of the Automobile holds the world’s largest collection, including the legendary Bugattis. The nearby Train Museum delights all ages. In winter, Alsace’s Christmas markets, the oldest being Strasbourg’s, flood the cities with lights and spice scents. On Lyad, Alsatian members share their favourite outings; it is up to you to pick one together.
